JAY WON KIM

Jay Won Kim is a future-making STEM student, who hopes to develop the biomedical diagnostic system with the AI which will be conducive to resolving health inequality over the world. His interests extend not only to the medical system using AI but the development of the ubiquitous AI system of everyday lives as well.

Jay Won's childhood, imbued with Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, the Marvel series, and Lego, was always a time for him to dream of the future and constantly envision and create a better future. The projects that Jay Won developed in grade 9 through grade 12 can be said to be the stage of realizing his imaginary wings in earnest. Jay Won’s projects, Medispenser and MediChaperone - Elder Care Bot, aim to build a system that, in a second, responds to sudden drowsiness in connection with the emergency medical units. This will be an essential living system for anyone living alone, not just the elderly. Jay Won’s dream of building a better future is melted into another project, Dental Image Analysis using Deep Learning models. The project to build a dental care system through deep learning of dental panorama images is to provide a diagnostic system for immediate dental care for those people in areas where there is a shortage or absence of dentists.

For academics, Jay Won has been taking AP courses on calculus, physics, biology, computer science, statistics, linguistics, and US history while attending a boarding school. In terms of extracurriculars, from grade 10, he has been working on a club, WorkShop which is the first and sole club for future engineering majors at school as a founder. Jay Won also participates actively in tutoring his colleagues who experience difficulties in computer science classes. From the personal perspective, as a violinist in the on-campus orchestra, Jay Won has visited a community orphanage or nursing home and had a regular concert. He is also actively participating in campaigns to prevent drug eradication and abuse problems to build a healthier and better future community.

Jay Won hopes to pursue his study in Electrical and Computer Engineering. In the future, Jay Won seeks to become a professional engineer in order to develop the social system in which everyone can enjoy an equal access to the information and technology in one’s everyday life.
